(For any film purists the words "film" and "movie" are used interchangeably on this website)

I made a major mistake overlooking the “What’s in it for you?” question in the past life of this independent film website. I say that because the old Slice Of Americana Films website started out something like this on its home page:

"Slice of Americana Films is a tight-knit crew that produces indie movies and video on demand programming. Founder and filmmaker Sid Kali is best known for...blah blah blah."

This time around I want to make up for my previous mistake by answering "What's in it for you?" right from the get go.

* No fluff. Just a crisp website with powerful indie filmmaking information that's easy to find and understand.

* Effective tips on how-to write, produce and direct independent movies that find meaningful distribution.

* In-depth articles covering a variety of independent film production topics.

* Access to filmmaking resources that will help you accomplish your own personal entertainment goals.

This indie filmmaking website grew out of tough lessons learned making independent movies under the Slice Of Americana Films banner with limited money, time and resources. It's a good feeling to stop talking about making movies and actually doing it!

My proven screenwriting, producing, and directing techniques have been covered in articles that have appeared in MovieMaker Magazine and Indie Slate Magazine.

I've met people that talk about that screenplay they are going to write or movie they're going to make soon...very soon. “Now” always beats “soon.” You can't wait for the perfect time to write that screenplay or make your movie, because there will never be a perfect time.

If you have a serious desire to write, direct, or produce movies then take action. I don't claim to be the person with every answer or can guarantee you will hit paydirt with your screenplay or movie. But I will tell you the truth which will greatly increase your chances for indie filmmaking success.

Slice Of Americana Films

The idea for Slice Of Americana Films was born in a pub that had a great jukebox, cheap happy hour, and free freshly made popcorn. The pub was a hangout for people from all walks of life. There were a cast of characters there who had ideas to do this and that but things hadn’t quite panned out for them yet. There was one guy who was a fan of the author Hunter S. Thompson who said he would only write his forthcoming novel on an old typewriter. He hadn’t found the right typewriter yet so that was causing a delay in writing the novel. The pub was a true “Slice Of Americana" and led to Slice Of Americana Films.

Writer/Producer/Director Sid Kali is best known for hard-hitting indie movies that feature human drama and provocative plots. Currently, his indie movies are being distributed domestically and internationally. His video programming is being shown by cable/satellite providers on Pay-Per-View (PPV) and Video-On-Demand (VOD), including Rogers Communications Canada’s largest cable services provider, whose territory covers approximately 3.5 million homes in Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Starting this year (2010) they will be available through Comcast which has over 24 million subscribers.

It might sound like Slice Of Americana Films is a one-person show, but that would not be accurate. East Coast based Producer/Editor/SEO Expert Tim Beachum joined the team in the early days when Sid found himself in post-production trouble. Tim was close to doing post-production work for a bigger rival video series, but Tim decided to pass on that opportunity and throw in with Sid to produce entertainment.

This producing team has since went on to release movies and video on demand programming under the flag of Slice Of Americana Films. Having creative types that have grown up on different coasts gives this indie production company a fresh take on entertainment.

The happenings of indie filmmaker Sid Kali is the focus of this website, but there will be a lot of good people mentioned that Sid works with. Filmmaking is the type of business where cast and crew pull together for a movie before moving on to their next gig. Once in a while cast and crew work together again, but that's not common at the indie film level. When it does happen it's something special. That's what this indie filmmaking website is all about.
