Many “classic” movies stand on their own, without a sequel. There are also many great films that had sequels. It depends on the story: did the main character die or not? If the guy died in the book, he’d better die in the movie.

I can so relate to what you say here, Sid, about having to have a thick skin if you want to survive being in any creative industry. A friend of mine once said, “stick your head above the parapet and people will throw stones at you”. There are always going to be people with unresolved issues and emotions who are looking for targets. Bullies, the lot of them.

The only good thing about vitriol being thrown at you is that the more people do it the better you get at knowing inside of yourself that it’s not about you or your work. Still, it’s a horrid experience, and I’m sorry you’ve had to go through it. Good for you for not giving up, I admire that about you!
